Photo Friday: Almost Back to Normal!

So if you recall . . .

My pre-pregnancy weight was 131, size 6
My 40 weeks pregnant weight was 171
My just gave birth weight was 156, size 14
. . . and then I was down and up and down and up and down (but my sizes steadily fell). . .
Now at 6 months post-partum, though, I'm happy to report that I'm down to 141, size 10.

I actually have old pants (from before I was so skinny, years before getting pregnant, but still MINE) that I can wear now. I put on these size 10 jeans from college today and felt so MYSELF and comfy!!

It just feels awesome to feel more like my old self again.

Here's a comparison pic . . .

7ish weeks pregnant, 40 weeks pregnant, and today (in my jeans, ;-)!

40 Weeks

Well, here it is, my due date.

Hopefully these are my last belly pictures until I am in early labor. This may sound like an echo from last week and you'd be right, LOL.

Intimate Pregnancy Photo Session

So Mariclare came over tonight to take some more "intimate" belly shots. We got some really beautiful ones!! I wouldn't feel comfortable sharing most of them, but here is just a taste of some of them.

I really can't get over how huge my stomach is!! I'm glad we have these to memorialize my crazy distorted body, LOL.

39 Weeks!

That's it! One week to go! I'm getting "kick out the baby" acupuncture later today, and again on Monday if I'm still pregnant then. My friend Craig the acupuncturist ensures me that rarely has his patients gone more than a day or two past their due dates, so I'm thinking it's just about one week to go. Maybe I'll even have him tomorrow! :-D

Anyway, hopefully the last belly pics until I am in early labor:

Seven days and counting.

38 Weeks!

I'll be 38 weeks tomorrow and I'm honestly getting ready to be done now. It's like someone flipped a switch inside me like three days ago and suddenly I am exhausted no matter how much I sleep, and there is literally no way for me to be comfortable in any position.

But I probably only have about two weeks left so it is OKAY.

Anyway, here's my 38 week belly pictures!

37 Weeks!

On Tuesday I'll be full-term! Here's my 37 week pics!

36 Weeks!

I don't know why my hair and face have been so awful in the belly pics the last few weeks! Akk! I hope I don't look awful all the time!

Anyway, here's the 36 week pictures!

I seriously look drunk.

At least the belly is cute. If you ignore all the itchy spots and huge blue veins (which I do ;-).

35 Weeks!

These belly pics are from Saturday, which is technically a little before 35 weeks but I have always taken the pics on Sunday morning, so yeah.

Very awesomely, Mariclare is coming over today to do our pregnancy photo session! I can't wait to post those pictures, too!

Sleep is my Friend/Weigh In/Baby Belly

So my brief few days of insomnia have thankfully abated in direct relation to my success at washing, sorting, putting together, and putting away all of the baby things. Our living room is now nearly back to normal and I'm thinking it will be totally back to normal by tonight.

Now, delightfully, I am once again sleeping like (ha) a baby. However I am sleeping even longer and more contentedly than is normal (for me). I'm guessing, if left to my own devises, I am sleeping nearly 12 hours each night. I wake up feeling good, but I will sleep right up until 10:30 or 11 if I stay up late the night before.

In my opinion, this is awesome. The number one warning/piece of advice I get from people is: "Sleep now while you still can", and apparently my body has taken this to heart. I only hope that I continue to sleep this well right up until the birth and my body turns the stored energy into labor stamina. ;-)

***********************

And my other update is my weight. After a month of holding steady (which I knew would NOT last), I am back to putting on weight. I am now up to 158 lbs from a starting weight of 131, meaning I've gained 27 lbs now. I'm fully prepared to go up to 30-35 lbs in the 6 weeks I have left.

Interestingly enough, my Mom weighed 131 lbs when she got pregnant with me, and went on to gain about 35 lbs during her pregnancy. Since she is still beautiful and in great shape at over 50, I am not at all abashed to be following in her footsteps. (She would totally deny being in great shape but compared to the average American she totally is.)

However, I would also be quite fine with staying closer to 30, though I really think I will continue to gain at least a pound a week, so I guess it depends on if he is late, early, or what.

Either way I'm not very concerned. I feel very lucky in that most of my pregnancy weight appears to be in my belly, which hopefully means it will be nearly gone between the birth and the week or two after. I guess my butt has gotten a little bigger, too, but I could have used some extra "junk in ma trunk" before. Hahahaha.

Anyway, I feel pretty lucky not to be one of those pregnant ladies that just gets generally fatter all over--legs, arms, hands, feet, face, etc. I actually always thought I WOULD be one of those ladies, so it has been a pleasant surprise to discover that that isn't the case.

******************************************

Along similar lines . . .

I have noticed for the last week or two that my stomach (ie, James David) seems to be growing by leaps and bounds. Suddenly it just seems SO much bigger than it had been, and (lil) James is starting to feel REALLY big and heavy in there. My belly button is still in, but it is seriously shallow. I guess it was pretty freaking deep before . . .

I keep trying to tell myself that it is still probably going to get like twice as big, especially if I go to full term. I'm at 34 weeks (yesterday), and he's supposedly 5 pounds in there now (according to the baby books). So obviously if he is born early at 37 weeks (3 weeks from now) he'll be quite a bit smaller than if he's born late, like 42 weeks (8 weeks from now). Then again I suppose how "done" he is probably has to do with his size anyway, so hopefully if he's a nice big baby he'll come a bit early and if he's a little baby he'll be more likely to need additional "cooking time".

Okay enough updates for right now, LOL.

32 Weeks Belly--8 Months!

So I am officially (well, I will be on Tuesday), 8 months pregnant!!

And after a long long hiatus I finally remembered to take belly pictures. Here I am!

I feel like I look really silly in this picture actually--I'd just woken up, but oh well!

Comparison Pictures

So, I guess I was pretty skinny before, and sometimes when I look at my belly I feel like it isn't that big. But I was looking at belly pictures yesterday from all the way back to when I first got pregnant, and it is quite the comparison . . .

Here I am at 6 weeks (1.5 months) pregnant, in the middle of March:

And here I am at 23 weeks (5.5 months) pregnant, last week, in the middle of July:

The Amazing Growing Stomach

So the reaction when showing off my stomach to family has been that I pull up my shirt and say: "Look, there's a belly!" And they say: "Well stop sticking it out!"

I'm NOT sticking it out, people!

Anyway, as you can see, it has grown over the last month and a half:

Three Topics for Today

One--Midwives. That's right, those of you who know me well should not be surprised that James and I will be using a midwife to deliver our baby. There is an incredible amount of research out there that midwives are actually safer for mothers and babies than regular doctors in low-risk pregnancies. If I was feeling more energetic, I would find and post this research here for your perusal, but I am lazy and so it seems too difficult at the moment. Remind me later and I promise I will prove to you that midwives are a great choice for a birth attendant.

However, James and I feel as if we might have trouble finding a midwife that we like. We wanted one in a solo practice, covered by our insurance, who was willing to do a homebirth. (Yes, again, you should not be shocked that I am interested in a homebirth. Before you lose your socks, do your research, homebirth is just as safe, if not safer, than hospital birth for low-risk pregnancies.) So, we are put in the position to somehow compromise. Luckily, the fees of a homebirth midwife are generally about 1/4 of the cost of a hospital birth, and include all prenatal care as well, so if we are forced to go with someone not covered by our insurance, it would be okay.

While you reel from the news that I both plan to use a midwife AND may give birth in my own house, I'll distract you with a new topic:

Two--Telling. As I had mentioned, very few people know about the pregnancy so far. (Four, three of which are medical professionals, two of those happen to also be friends, though). All my online friends told people within minutes of the pregnancy test drying, including their parents, friends, and their network of Facebook acquaintances. As I mentioned before, given the vast array of chemical pregnancies I have gone through, my plan was always to wait.

But as the waiting got longer and longer it started to feel more and more funny to tell anyone about it. Around 8 weeks I thought I had developed a telling phobia and would not tell until people could know because of my huge belly. But then, around 9.5 weeks, I did start to have the itch to share my news with my dear friends (and there are so many of you, really).

But folks I have finally broken the telling ribbon. I hung out with Amy on Wednesday and she asked how trying to conceive was going, and I said "Well . . . " BIG SMILE.

Now, don't be jealous that you didn't find out sooner, if you are reading this and are not Amy. Basically, when I decided about a week ago that I wanted to start telling people, I thought that: 1. I wanted to tell them in person, and 2. I wanted to tell them in more of a personal setting.

James wanted to tell a table full of Norm, Jessie, Sagar, Amy, Karl, and Tim when we ate dinner with them on Sunday (before Laccone's show), but since I had told zero people, telling all those people at once scared the wits out of me. But the plan now is to tell you, dear friend, when I see you and hang out with you. Though I have been a socially withdrawn bad friend and family member (which now I can at least partly blame on bedrest), I do miss you and love you and hope to see you and tell you soon.

And another topic:

Three--Belly!! Yep, I've got a little one. James, Yaling, and Amy have assured me that it is not noticeable, but I think that is because it generally resembles my gluten belly. You see, I always have had sort of a round belly. Many of us have laughed about past photos in which I look 20 weeks pregnant--however, it turns out that this swollen belly was a reaction to gluten. When I stopped eating gluten, within a few days, my normally round belly had suddenly gone flat. I was flabbergasted. I began to notice that when I DID eat gluten, the bloated round belly would come right back. Weird, right?

Anyway, my 10 week belly very much resembles my gluten belly, and so, may not be noticeable to the untrained eye. And yet, the size 6 pants that I looked quite cute in a few months ago might as well be size 2's for how well I can button them. Luckily I have an ample supply of 8's and 10's to see me through for some time.

But fear not, dear reader, I have further proof:

I know it isn't a HUGE difference, but there is a bit of a difference. I will have to update on Sunday when we take our week 11 picture, I feel like it has really popped out this week.

Anyway, those three topics are probably enough to wrap your brain around today.
