It's weird, but we were trying so long that not only am I super excited to have this baby, I am super excited to have another one after him/her! I find myself extremely jealous of people with one year olds and 18 month olds who are also pregnant and due around the same time I am . . .
Since we FIRST started trying over 3 years ago, I feel like my vision for what I want my family to be has "aged" when there isn't a real baby here aging--so now when I picture our little "what could have been family" we already have our SECOND baby.
Perhaps I am crazy for already thinking about number 2--but I love my siblings so much, and I want to have several children. We'll see what happens with my fertility. We will be exclusively breastfeeding (barring any issues), and lactational amenorrhea is a pretty effective birth control.
But I have known people who got their periods (and thus their fertility) back at 6 weeks postpartum, and I have know other people who didn't get their period and fertility back until almost 2 years postpartum (they were still breastfeeding)! I think the former would be a bit too early for me and the latter would be later than I would have wanted.
My Mom said she always got her period back about 5 months postpartum. I think that would be perfect. I guess the plan right now is to start trying for our second when our first is 9 months old, aiming for a 18 month-2 year gap. So that means we would start trying in . . . August 2011. I can't wait to have two little ones!!
But for now I will be excited for my one little one! First things first!

I LOVE having babies close together! So far, my favorite age split is 14 months. I love watching them grow and develop side by side. I love seeing the older one learn to be gentle and be so excited with the younger one's accomplishments, etc...though I also love watching this with even my oldest, so maybe the age span doesn't matter quite as much!
I am one of those who gets my cycle back at 6 weeks pp, regardless of how frequently baby is nursing (exclusively, co-sleeping, etc!)...even with twins! But I have never had a BFP before baby was 8 months old...so you never know when you will actually start to ovulate!
I couldn't imagine having to wait so long for a baby...it makes sense though what you are saying about your idea of having a family aging. I hope and pray you do not have the same issues getting pregnant again next time! I am looking forward to hearing your news of another BFP!
Thanks Michelle! I feel like figuring out that I have gluten intolerance/Celic's Disease was a major factor in our troubles getting pregnant, so I'm really hoping that TTCing number 2 will be easy.
We could be TTC #2 together if we don't try right when he turns 1. I hope it's a fast and easy BFP when we both start trying again! :)
We'll probably start trying again in July/August of next year too! Part of that timing will be for the age gap, and part will be so I only have to meet one insurance deductible, instead of two (the new insurance year starts in July).
I'm so excited to be TTCing with you ladies! ;-)
When Roree was still a little baby, when I would picture sibblings for her I would actually picture them as older sibblings. Now that she's almost 2 and we're actually TTC #2 all I see is her as an older sister though.
